Feb 8th – Friday night (23:13 London time)
So the day continues and after we came back we went to bed for a little bit (around an hour)…so now we’ve maybe had a total of 5 hours in 2 days. I can tell that it’s beginning to affect me. I keep getting really dizzy all the time even if I’ve eaten and am not really doing anything. But anyways we had our meet and greet (welcome drink) at 6 and it went pretty well. I went around and introduced myself to people while drinking a glass of merlot. Other people came around as well and we just kind of chatted amongst ourselves. I then got a glass of the white wine and started talking to these two girls Anne and Megan. They were really cool and Megan had studied abroad in England in the fall so she knew her way around and really wanted to eat at this one restaurant. We were really hungry too so wanted to go. I think that most of the other people were going bar hopping, clubbing and other night life stuff. I really couldn’t afford to stay out until like 4 or something….no way. (It seems like they really don’t care about the sites as much as I do – but then again I guess I’ll just have to see how they are through the semester and mind you it’s not all of them). We took the tube to a part of London and walked around on Jubilee Street. We finally got to the restaurant/pub/tavern, Doggett’s, and it was pretty cool inside – crowded none the less.
I shared a large fish and chips meal with Caitlin and it was really good besides the part about the “mushy peas.” Yes, that was really gross and I like peas so there you go!
There was a really funny incident in the bathroom when a lady came out of one of the stalls and me and another woman were waiting to go into one of the 2 occupied ones. The next in line lady peered in the stall and was like “I think that you clogged that.” The lady just kind of looked in there and said, “Well that’s weird because I didn’t do anything dirty in there.” HA. We were just laughing. She then said “well I guess it’s that one or the one with no lid.” The lady waited for the lidless one and I tried to flush the other toilet – yep – bad idea – water flowing everywhere on the ground. haha. Oh well! Then another lady came in and looked into the 2 stalls after I was done and she said, “Oh I cannot use the one without the lid right now because my legs are so weak and I’m too drunk to be doing that.” Yeah, just picture all this in British accents and that makes it even a little funnier. There was also this couple behind us at the restaurant and seriously it was like at least a 2 hour make out/grope session. Randomly Anne and Megan would start cracking up and I’d be like…I didn’t say anything funny. Then I would turn around and start laughing too. But after that we just hung out and then walked back and saw Big Ben and The London Eye at night time.
It was absolutely amazingly gorgeous. Words and pictures can’t even do it justice. I just wish I could take a picture with my eyes it was so awesome. We basically then took the tube back and came upstairs.
This picture is for you Kelsey, Mallory, Cimela, and Taylor!!! hahha. :)
Even though we had an early night, we have breakfast at 7, so it’s still not much sleep, but more than I’ve had! Tomorrow we then go on a bus tour and stop at some places too (Westminster Abbey, Tower of London, Buckingham Palace). It’s still surreal that I am here and experiencing this. I’m kind of just living off of pure adrenaline right now, no sleep, and basically in a way delirious. I’m almost ready to get to Austria, but then again they’ll be speaking German and everything will be written in it as well, so it’s pretty intimidating. I don’t know about my housing or anything. I just really don’t want to start school again.
I’ve only spent 10 pounds since I’ve been here so I guess that is pretty good for the day! I now though have about 35 left to spend, but I have to buy lunch and dinner tomorrow as well as some souvenirs! J Oh and another thing that is kind of annoying which I kind of knew before coming over, but it’s still really annoying, is the fact that all internet costs to use it. In the hotel it costs 15 pounds (30 dollars) a day to use. Maybe we are just lucky in the US to have free wireless basically everywhere. But hopefully when I get to Salzburg and all set up I can use the University’s computer. We’ll just have to see; maybe I’ll be in internet cafes all the time.
